How much does an account cost?
Free for Georgia residents and Homecard patrons!
$10 annually for non-residents.
Do I need to bring anything to sign up for a Library Card?
2 forms of ID please, such as driver’s license or student ID and a piece of mail.
My books are overdue! Do you charge?
We only require payment if books are damaged or lost. No overdue fees.
When are the items I borrowed due?
Books are due 3 weeks from check-out.
Audio books on CD or Playaway, DVDs, magazines, games, and puzzles are due 2 weeks from check out.
Other items have different circulation periods, so it’s best to ask. (But we’ll explain them at the time of check-out, too!)
May I return items from other libraries to you?
Unless the item is an Inter-Library Loan you requested through us, alas, no. (Our postage costs would be astronomical otherwise.)
Do you have Wi-Fi?
Yes, and it’s free!
Ask for the password at the desk.
(We don’t typically give our Wi-Fi password to youths under 16.)
May I renew the items I have out?
Yes, unless it’s new and in-demand, or is being held for another patron.
BTW, what are the 'items' you keep mentioning?
The phrases “library items” and “library materials” refers to everything we have to offer: books, DVDs, games, puzzles, audio books on CD and Playaway, magazines, snowshoes, and more!
May I volunteer? How?
Yes, yes, yes, you may volunteer with us! We welcome you with open arms and wishes for wonderful karma!
May I make a donation to the Library?
Yes! See “Donations” on our Policies page.
What's your favorite book?
Of all time? That’s an unfair question.
At this moment? Ask us the next time you’re in the Library–we love to give recommendations!
Is there such a thing as too many books?
Nope! (If there is, we haven’t found it yet!)
Occasionally, we remove items that haven’t been borrowed in a long time to conserve space. The removed items often end up on our Free Books Shelf.
May I print or make copies in the Library?
Yes, you may. Printing and copying costs 15¢ per side for black and white and 25¢ per side for color.
Are you just making up questions now?
Nope! Patrons ask these questions all the time (well, except for this one)!
Plus, you read this far down our FAQ section, so some humor’s inevitable.
What if I wanted to bring a water bottle and a snack?
We discourage people from eating in the Library, since books (and other items) don’t socialize well with water and food debris. If you must eat or drink, please step outside.
How is the Library funded?
The majority of the Library’s budget comes from Georgia residents’ taxes. Grants and donations also help us meet our patrons’ needs.
Are you volunteers?
The Library’s staff is paid from its yearly budget.
The Board of Trustees are volunteers.
At many points in its history, volunteers did run the Library.
Who decides what items are added to the collection?
Our staff add items to our collection based on popularity, reviews, requests, and suggestions.
For instance, we add many popular adult fiction authors’ novels because they are in demand and have a proven readership.
May I use my library card at other libraries?
Yes, you may, if those libraries are members of Homecard.
What do I do if I don't have my library card?
Not a problem! We can look up your account (though having your card ensures it goes smoothly).
If you need your card replaced, stop by the Library and we’ll make you a new one.
May I return library materials if you're not open?
Yes, you may, in our drop box.
Do you accept Book Donations?
Generally we ask that donated books are in excellent condition, published within the past two or three years, and that they aren't titles that we already have in our collection. If you have specific questions, please feel free to contact us. We also ask that donations be brought in when we’re open, rather than placed in the drop box or left outside.
